Have you ever dreamed of climbing  the highest freestanding mountain in the world and the highest peak in Africa, Kilimanjaro is an experience for you. With its 5895 m, it is the quite an experience and an adventure for both the experienced hiker and the novice. With an experiences guide and team of porters, we will help you reach the summit of the highest peak in Africa.


We will share with you before your climb all the necessary information that you will need for your hike and also what equipment you should pack with you on the trip. After the climb, we can also help you plan some relaxing days either with safari or Zanzibar to celebrate your achievement. 

The Lemosho route is the route with the highest success rates, due to the number of days that gives you a chance to acclimate on the mountain. 

It will join the Machame route after a while, so you will get a chance to see the Barranco wall. 


The Lemosho route on Kilimanjaro starts west of the peak. From there, the path moves through the rainforest and ascends to the Shira Plateau. It is relatively flat until Shira 2 camp. Then it circles mountain in a counter clockwise direction to Barranco, Karanga and Barafu. From Barafu, which is high camp, the summit ascent travels northwest.

The descent is down the same route back to Barafu, then south to the exit gate on the Machame route giving you a chance to see different landscapes.

Itinerary

Start Altitude: 2,100 m

Camp Altitude: 2,780 m

Hiking time: 3-4 hours


You will be picked up in Arusha/Moshi and transfer to the Lemosho Gate for registration. You will begin the Kilimanjaro climb through lush rainforest to Mti Mkubwa Camp (Big Tree Camp), where you will stay the night. You will during this part of the trail, go through the beautiful rainforest on Kilimanjaro, getting a chance to see monkeys and beautiful butterflies around you.


Start Altitude: 2,780 m

Camp Altitude: 3,510 m

Hiking time: 5-6 hours


Climb steadily through forest and into moorland, a very different landscape to the day before. Cross the Shira Ridge, with stunning views of Shira Plateau and Kibo Peak if the weather permits. After a hike of 5-6 hours, we will camp at Shira One Camp. 


Start Altitude: 3,510 m

Camp Altitude: 3,850 m

Hiking time: 5-7 hours


You will continue of gaining in altitude on the mountain with gentle hiking across the Shira Plateau. During the hike, you will enjoy panoramic views before reaching Shira Two Camp. The Shira Plateau isa volcanic caldera, believed to have collapsed around 500 000 years ago.


Start Altitude: 3,850 m

Camp Altitude: 3,960 m

Highest Point: 4,630 m

Hiking time: 6-8 hours


When leaving the Shira Plateau behind to continue the hike forward, today you will see a magnificent landscape. When reaching the Lava Tower, a 300m tall edifice made of cooled lava, you will get a chance for acclimatization and take some nice photos. After acclimatizing for a bit, we will continue the hike and descend to Barranco Camp, located below the impressive Barranco Wall.


Start Altitude: 3,960 m

Camp Altitude: 3,995 m

Hiking time: 4-5 hours


This day you will start the day off with a challenge, by climbing the Barranco Wall, a non-technical but thrilling scramble. You might need the use of four to get up this famous wall. After succeeding, you will rest for a bit to catch your breath before you continue Karanga Camp. At Karanga Camp, you will get a chance to rest properly and continue to acclimate to the altitude of Kilimanjaro.


Start Altitude: 3,995 m

Camp Altitude: 4,673 m

Hiking time: 4-5 hours


Today you will have a short but steep ascent to Barafu Camp, the final base camp before the summit in the alpine desert. Since it is the day before the summit, the focus of this day is to rest a lot and get ready for reaching the peak of Africa, Uhuru Peak at 5,895 m.


Start Altitude: 4,673 m

Camp Altitude: 3,100 m

Highest Point: 5,895 m

Hiking time: 12-15 hours


This is the day you have been working for while doing the Lemosho Route, the Summit Day. Starting at midnight to do the final ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at its magnificent 5,895 m. You will climb through the darkness through the alpine desert and next to glaciers, before reaching Stella Point. The goal is to reach this point for sunrise, so you can look out over the magnificent landscape of Africa. From Stella Point, you have around one more hour before you reach the Uhuru Peak on Kibo, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 m. After succeeding this magnificent challenge and some celebratory photos at the top, you will defend to Mweka Camp to spend the night. The descent will take several hours before you get some well needed rest.


Start Altitude: 3,100 m

Final Altitude: 1,640 m

Hiking time: 3-4 hours


This is the last day before you get some well-deserved rest and a hot shower. you will wake up at Mweka Camp and hike through the rainforest down to Mweka gate, where you will be picked up and transfer to your accommodation in Arusha or Moshi. You will also received your certificate, celebrating your accomplishment of ascending the highest point in Africa!
